If you want to save money on ammunition without sacrificing your beloved 1911, then this is the pistol you need! The Rock Island Armory Tactical 1911, one of the most popular 1911s on the market, is now available in 9mm. Compared to the more expensive .45 ACP model, you can feed it for much less money and keep the same number of rounds going down range.

It’s not often that we are asked to test multiple handguns at the same time. In fact, I wasn’t expecting more than one and it was a surprise when Rock Island sent out two of their latest 1911s for T&E. I am not complaining, as the two were their latest releases from their growing TAC series. The Tac series focuses on getting tactically (go figure) features into the handguns for the best price possible. Knowing there is a tradeoff between price and features, I was curious to dive straight in.

My first impressions when I picked up this gun was that it has a much better fit/finish than I expected. The factory 'novak style' sights sucked (hence the fiber optic addition). They are almost impossible to see against anything but a light colored background. With the fiber optic, it was easy to put the dot on the target however. So, no issues with the sights overall. I'm still not sure about a full rail on a 1911 (I have the SIG Tacops 1911 so it's not totally foreign to me) but it's growing on me I think. My biggest complaint, not that I really have one, is the GIGANTIC name tag RIA put on this gun. It just looks a little funny to me.
